The Jamaican economy is based mainly on services ,. The country continues to get most of foreign income from tourism and bauxite / alumina. Tourism, located on the north coast, is the largest foreign exchange earner. Remittances from Jamaicans working abroad is also a strong main income.

Since the late sixties industry has generated more income for the country than agriculture. Dress clothes is the main export item of the manufacturing sector. Among other industries they are: oil refinery, processing of sugar and snuff, flour mills and rum production, metals, paper, chemicals and telecommunication equipment. Other agricultural exports include: the famous Blue Mountain coffee, bananas, citrus and potatoes. Most of these crops are grown on large plantations. In small farms ginger, cocoa, pepper, ackee (national fruit of the country), chickens and goats is also produced.
Mining produces much of the wealth. Jamaica has become one of the largest global providers thanks to its large bauxite deposits, discovered in 1942, which is easily accessible. This mineral, together with alumina, which is one of its products, contributes more than half of foreign trade of Jamaica.
