Relevant infomation about Jamaica

Jamaica is situated in the Caribbean sea.   It has 10.990 square Kilomeres  in area. Before the arrival of Cristhopher Columbus in 1494, it was inhabited by the Indigenous Arawak and Taino. When the Island was under the  Spanish rule its name was Santiago. But when England conquered the Island it was renamed Jamaica.

 

Under British rules Jamaica became a leading sugar exporter. Its economy  highly depended on slaves imported from Africa , then from China and Indi. Slaves were liberated in  1838.  Jamaica from England in 1962. With 2.8 millon people , Jamaica is the third most populous Anglophone country in the Americas after U.S and Canada.


Kingston is the Capital .


 

 

The flag was adopted on August 6, 1962 the original Jamaica Independence day.

The national flag of Jamaica consists of a gold saltire (diagonal cross), which divides the flag into four sections: two of them green (top and bottom) and two black (hoist and fly)

The means of the color are:
Yellow: Gold, sun.
Black: Force, strength, creativity
